The Difference Between Emergency Services and Urgent Care


In general, an emergency is a sudden, serious and unexpected illness, injury or condition which may result in permanent injury or loss of life if not treated immediately.

Urgent care 

Urgent care services are required for an unexpected injury or acute illness which requires prompt medical attention to avoid complications and unnecessary suffering or pain, and will not result in permanent injury or loss of life.

A Variety of Insurances Accepted:  Our Urgent Care accepts most insurance (e.g., HMOs, PPOs, EPOs, Medicare, Tricare, Workers' compensation plans). To find out if your specific plan is covered, view our comprehensive list of insurances accepted. Your health plan's member services department is able to confirm if your plan covers your care at Arch Health Partners.

Urgent care visitors who are currently not an Arch Health patient or a patient of one of the medical groups listed below will pay by cash or credit card. We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express. You can attempt to receive reimbursement from your insurance carrier.

We also welcome patients from the following medical groups:

  • Scripps Coastal Medical Center (Poway location only)
  • Sharp Community Medical Group

Consumer Disclosures

We make every effort to see our patients promptly in the order of arrival. Sometimes, however, certain medical conditions require a faster response than others. Some treatments require waiting for exam rooms with special equipment. We appreciate your patience and understanding in these situations.
As your Urgent Care provider, we will strive to see every patient who seeks care. However, we reserve the right to close to new arrivals early if the patient volume and/or acuity would cause a delay in care to additional patients. Our attending provider will assess and advise patients and staff of any early closure. We will be accountable to our patients by thoughtfully assessing the need to close to new arrivals prior to our posted close time, and use that option only when necessary. 
Arch Health Medical Group’s Urgent Care Centers treat acute episodic illness or minor trauma: the Urgent Care Centers are NOT for emergency intervention for major trauma, life-threatening or potentially disabling conditions, or monitoring and treatment over prolonged periods, and is not intended to be a source of continuing care.
