AHP Designated Top Performing and Most Improved Physician Group in California

Arch Health Partners (AHP) has been named a top performing physician organization for the third consecutive year by the California Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) after meeting or exceeding several quality goals for 2011.
AHP, which has offices throughout North San Diego County, just keeps getting better too.
AHP was also recognized as a “Most Improved” physician organization by the respected IHA at its 11th annual Pay for Performance (P4P) Stakeholders Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20, in Los Angeles.
It was the second time AHP, a multi-specialty physician organization affiliated with Palomar Health, has been named “Most Improved” in San Diego and Imperial counties by IHA. AHP achieved this award in 2009, for the 2008 performance year, when it was known as the Centre for Health Care.
“It takes a whole team effort to get these awards. Our entire care team deserves credit,” says Scott Flinn, M.D., Arch Health Partners Medical Director. “The most improved award shows that even though we are good, we don’t rest because we know we can always get better.”
Dr. Flinn and Mary Ellen Leahy, RN, MBA, accepted the “Top Performing” and “Most Improved” awards at the IHA meeting and presented on what small physician groups like AHP are doing to provide excellent care and be successful in a competitive environment.
IHA is a statewide leadership group that promotes quality improvement, accountability and affordability of healthcare in California.
Each year, IHA determines the top physician groups that have demonstrated best overall performance on select health quality measures, including preventive care and chronic care management, patient satisfaction and meaningful use of health information technology to support safer, more effective care.
This year, IHA rated nearly 200 physician organizations, using 2011 performance year data, and identified 47 as “Top Overall Performing Physician Organizations.” AHP was one of four physician organizations in San Diego County to be named a top performer and one of two in the San Diego region to be recognized as most improved.
Statewide, AHP was one of only four physician organizations to be honored with both top performing and most improved awards.
“Most Improved” award winners are given to physician organizations in different regions whose composite scores have improved the most over the previous year.
“Of all the recognitions we have been honored to receive, this year’s double award is perhaps the most meaningful,” says Leahy, Arch Health Partners Director of Performance Improvement and Continuity of Care. “Not only has the excellent care and service we provide for our patients been acknowledged, our organizational commitment to continually improve and innovate has also been affirmed.”
Earlier this year, AHP was designated an Elite Medical Group by the California Association of Physician Groups, an award also based on meeting quality goals. Last year, AHP was recognized for effectively reducing death and disability from heart disease and stroke, earning the Gold Performance Award from the California Right Care Initiative.
