As a board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Roger Acheatel is skilled in the use of minimally-invasive procedures to treat patients with coronary artery disease and for whom medications and lifestyle changes are not enough. These procedures include, but are not limited to:

• Cardiac catheterization
• Angioplasty
• Stents
• Drug-eluting stents
• Heart valve repair

Dr. Acheatel received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 1968, graduating magna cum laude. He attended Harvard University Law School, earning his law degree and graduating cum laude, in 1972. He practiced law for two years before deciding to go to medical school. In 1976, Dr. Acheatel returned to UCLA to obtain his medical degree and graduated with honors in 1980. He completed his Internal Medicine residency (1983) and Cardiology fellowship (1986) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. During his last year of fellowship, he was the Cardiac Catheterization Fellow. In 1997, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Administrative Medicine from the University of Wisconsin. He has been the principal investigator or co-investigator in more than one hundred Phase II, III, and IV cardiovascular clinical research studies on the effectiveness of investigational drugs to treat various cardiovascular conditions.

Dr. Acheatel was formerly a member of a large cardiology group practice serving North San Diego County. He served as Medical Director for the Cardiology Unit at PMC – Escondido and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a former chief of staff at Palomar Medical Center – Poway (formerly Pomerado Hospital), and was the Physician Executive Sponsor for the Palomar Mayo Clinic Care Network. He has been named Physician of the Year twice at PMC – Poway and once at Palomar Medical Center – Escondido.
